Server won't start on newer minecraft versions

I’ve installed MineOS on an existing Debian 10 installation. It works well with some older versions, up to 1.17.1, but anything newer than that won’t work. If i press start (either from the server status page or the eula menu) nothing happens. No error message, nothing in the logging page in the UI and nothing in “/var/log/mineos.log”. I’ve tried re-downloading the .jar files, but it still doesn’t work.
XMX is 6 GB
XMS is 2 GB

I hope there is an easy solution to this, thanks for your help in advance.

Sounds like you need to upgrade your java version.

That might be a good idea, current version is 16.0.1
